The Sumerton Women "THE SUMERTON WOMEN"
Release Date: April 27th
“ With smooth prose that goes down like warm honeyed milk, D.L. Bogdan tells the story of Cecily and Mirabella Sumerton and their family saga of loss, jealousy and betrayal. Set in a time of religious upheaval and political chaos as King Henry VIII destroys the monasteries and plunges his country into war, "The Sumerton Women" is a story of love and redemption, beautifully told.”
~ Christy English, author of "To be Queen" and "The Queens Pawn"
Delightful. D.L. Bogdan is a gifted storyteller. I gazed spellbound as an aristocratic young lady matured before my eyes and the characters surrounding her suffered through the psychological consequences of their moral failings, all set against the backdrop of the English Reformation.”
~ Mitchell James Kaplan, author of "“By Fire, by Water”"
O rphaned at age eight, Lady Cecily Burkhart becomes the ward of Harold Pierce, Earl
of Sumerton. Lord Hal and his wife, Lady Grace, welcome sweet-natured Cecily as one
of their own. With Brey, their young son, Cecily develops an easy friendship. But their
daughter, Mirabella, is consumed by her religious vocation—and by her devotion to Father
Alec Cahill, the family priest and tutor.
As Henry VIII’s obsession with Anne Boleyn leads to violent religious upheaval, Mirabella
is robbed of her calling and the future Cecily dreamed of is ripped away in turn. Cecily
struggles to hold together the fractured household while she and Father Alec grapple with
a dangerous mutual attraction. Plagued with jealousy, Mirabella unleashes a tumultuous
chain of events that threatens to destroy everyone around her, even as the kingdom is
torn apart…...
Bogdan’s characters are complex and the story is riveting. Bogdan brilliantly portrays the transformation and conflict of the Tudor England while mixed with the struggles of a broken family.”

Passages to the Past: 4.5 Crowns
Rivals in the Tudor Court was engrossing and entertaining. One of the things that I love about Bogdan’s writing is her ability to provoke emotions from the reader. With wonderfully fleshed out and three-dimensional characters, Rivals will draw you in and keep you captivated! Highly recommended!

"Rivals in the Tudor Court" is sure to be one of the best novels on the Tudor period this year as it focuses on different historical figures and not the usual suspects, but also is one of those novels that is really character driven and special. Bogdan is truly an author on the rise!

D.L. Bogdan made a wise choice when she decided to chronicle the lives of Thomas and Mary Howard, the Duke of Norfolk and his daughter as up until now there has been almost no fictional material available about those who played such an important role in the Tudor court. Norfolk was the uncle who helped raise Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard to the precipice that was queenship, and it was this same uncle who stood by to condemn them when they came crashing down. Poor little Mary Howard served both of her cousins and was married to Henry Fitzroy, Henry VIII's illegitimate son. Until now most novels have stayed away from these characters. Bogdan paints a beautifully illuminated portrait of their lives.
"Rivals in the Tudor Court" is a prequel to Bogdan's first novel "Secrets in the Tudor Court." Bogdan's premier Tudor novel is a first person account of the life of Mary Howard, the daughter of the Duke of Norfolk and a chronicle of the twisted relationship Mary had with her father. She so wanted his love so badly, but never seemed to be able to gain it, yet he wanted her under his control and by his side and she never understood why. In the second book we find out what is behind Norfolk's strange and cruel love for his child as well as others in his life. I cannot say enough about how well Bogdan brought out an understandable and even likable personality in such a difficult and unlikeable character as the Duke of Norfolk. The book was magnificent in its scope of the many years of Thomas Howard's life. His life was filled with so many losses, so many changes, and so many families. But he is so knotted up inside because of the death of his first family that he destroys everything and everyone else around him for the rest of his life. This book was beautifully written and took me on a sweeping emotional ride.

Bogdan’s debuts with a sweeping tale of the Tudor court from Catherine of Aragon to Katharine Parr as seen through the eyes of Mary Howard, the powerful Duke of Norfolk's daughter. Readers are given a glimpse into each queen's court and a fresh portrait of Henry VIII. Told from Mary's viewpoint, the book shows Norfolk's manipulations as he uses his daughter as a pawn in his political games. There is no doubt that Tudor fans will devour yet another novel starring Henry and his wives. 4 Stars!
I have been ignoring my blogging responsibilities lately due to some health issues, but I am feeling better and part of the reason is because of this book.
A couple of weeks ago I did a very clumsy thing and fell at work on my way to the Ladies room. Of all things my non-slip sandal actually got stuck on the floor and I just kept going face forward and hitting my chest on the door frame on my way down landing on both knees. Unfortunately I was alone in the office and it scared me to death. I couldn't get up for a while. When I did I turned off my computer, locked the doors and went home crying my head off. It hurt like crazy. I managed to get ice on everything, get in bed and grab a book. The book I grabbed off the shelf was none other than The Secrets of the Tudor Court. To tell the truth I wasn't planning on too much because this is the author's debut novel, etc. Was I in for a surprise!!!! From the first page it got me. I love the Tudor era. It seems to be never ending. Always some intrigue or new character that hasn't yet been explored. This book doesn't disappoint! This book is well worth the purchase. It will move you, it did me.
Ms. Bogdan is a talented author and this being her debut novel is amazing. I really look forward to her other books that will surely follow. 4.5 royal stars from me! ~ Susan Fiorito “Tudor Daughter” of www.tudordaughter.blogspot.com on “ All Things Royal…”
